What is "Reduced Inequalities"?
Yeditepe University is committed to reducing inequalities by ensuring fair, inclusive, and rights-based access to education, employment, and campus life for all members of its community. The University’s publicly available Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Policy guarantees equality of opportunity, prohibits discrimination in all academic and administrative processes, and affirms that higher education is a universal right. This framework supports applicants, students, international students, individuals from underrepresented backgrounds, and people with disabilities through transparent and equitable practices.
Through its EDI Committee and Gender Equality Action Plan, Yeditepe systematically monitors the representation of women, first-generation students, international students, and individuals from disadvantaged groups. Annual reporting and data collection processes guide institutional actions for inclusive admissions, equitable recruitment, and the retention of underrepresented students and staff. With a student body of 17,653 individuals, including 876 international students from developing countries and 720 first-generation students, Yeditepe implements structured efforts to maintain diversity and equal opportunity across its programmes.
The University provides comprehensive support systems designed to strengthen the participation and wellbeing of underrepresented groups. Academic and peer mentoring, professional counselling, and transition support are delivered through the Individual and Academic Development Office. Dedicated Disability Services (CCOSD) ensure accessible infrastructure, adapted learning materials, personal assistance, exam accommodations, and social integration support for students with disabilities. As of the reporting period, the campus includes 28 students and 55 employees with disabilities, each supported through tailored services and a fully funded reasonable-accommodation mechanism.
Yeditepe maintains an accessible and inclusive campus environment. Buildings, sports centers, academic facilities, and transportation areas are continuously reviewed to meet accessibility requirements. The University also provides specialised services—such as readers, assistive technologies, adapted course materials, and accessible study areas—to ensure full academic participation for all students.
Anti-discrimination and anti-harassment principles are reinforced through institutional regulations, including the EDI Policy and the national Higher Education Law, which defines harassment as a serious disciplinary offence. Awareness trainings, reporting mechanisms, and clear investigation procedures contribute to a safe, respectful, and equitable environment for every member of the University community.
Through these comprehensive policies, monitoring systems, and student-centered support structures, Yeditepe University demonstrates a strong institutional commitment to combating inequality and promoting fairness, accessibility, and social inclusion in alignment with SDG 10.
